Diamond Beach is East Nusa Penida’s crown jewel, featuring a pristine white sand beach surrounded by towering limestone cliffs and iconic rock formations. With a 4.2/5 rating from over 180 Tripadvisor reviews, this relatively new tourist destination (stairs installed in 2018) offers one of Indonesia’s most dramatic coastal landscapes. The beach gets its name from the sparkling white sand that resembles diamonds against the turquoise water.

Access to the beach requires descending approximately 260 steps built along a steep cliff face – a challenging but rewarding adventure that keeps crowds smaller than more accessible beaches.

What Makes It Special

  • Pristine White Sand: Soft, fine sand that sparkles in sunlight
  • Iconic Rock Formations: Dramatic limestone pillars rising from the sea create stunning backdrops
  • Crystal Clear Water: Brilliant turquoise water perfect for photos
  • Clifftop Viewpoint: Spectacular panoramic views before descent
  • Less Crowded: Challenging access means fewer visitors than Kelingking
  • Combined Ticket: Access includes nearby Atuh Beach (connected viewing area)

The Descent & Beach Experience

The Stairs: Approximately 260 steps with rope railings descend the cliff face. The route is steep and requires good fitness. Allow 15-20 minutes to descend, 25-35 minutes to climb back up.

The Beach: Once at the bottom, you’ll find pristine white sand, clear water, and dramatic rock formations perfect for photography. Swimming is possible when conditions are calm, though waves can be strong.

Facilities: Basic warung at top viewpoint. No facilities on beach itself.

  • Season: April to October (dry season) – stairs can be slippery when wet
